Here are a few basic tips to start with....
Fleas, Ticks & Other External Parasites
Fleas and ticks are not only extremely annoying to your best friend, but
they can also be a healthy hazard. External parasites can lead to many
health problems. And what's worse they are very common. If the problem is
not addressed in a consistent manner they can become an infestation! Fleas can
be a source of tapeworms to your dog,
they can also cause hair loss, infections of the skin, allergic reactions,
and even anemia. No doubt you have heard of Lyme disease. Ticks are a big cause for concern for your dog because
they can carry this disease. What's so alarming about this disease is it's fatal
to both humans and animals. Another common irritation to watch for are ear mites, which
can be extremely annoying and painful to your dog.
Check for fleas, ticks and other parasites regularly. If necessary take your
dog to the vet and have these pests removed by a professional. If you feel
comfortable doing this yourself, go to your local pet store or vet for an
effective treatment you can administer. Even if your dog is an inside fellow, when they are outside
relieving themselves or on walks they can become infected by fleas, ticks,
and other little critters.
